Job description
Directly supporting individuals referred by Community Living of BC (CLBC) with neurodevelopmental disabilities and complex neurobehavioural issues. Complex neurobehavioural issues may include, but are not limited to, substance misuse, struggles maintaining housing, dual diagnosis, and challenging behaviour(s) that put the individual at increased risk of criminal justice involvement/being criminalized. Assess and collaboratively establish service delivery goals (ex. occupational, recreational, social, housing and financial) with those served. Where appropriate, incorporate the input of family members and other community stakeholders. Support with activities of daily living (ADL) and promoting independent life skills. Position requires working independently with the person served in their home and/or in the community.
This person will execute their position in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Core values of the John Howard Society Okanagan & Kootenay.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Recognize, analyze, and address challenging and emergency situations
Maintain daily narrative reports of contact and develop needs assessments and related tools
Work collaboratively with CLBC facilitators and those served to determine service plans and goals
Promote independence, safety, and overall quality of life
Assist with activities of daily living
Home-based and community-based support
Utilize harm reduction and strengths-based approaches
Exercise good judgement and uphold professional boundaries
General office support, committee work, as necessary
EDUCATION, SKILLS, & QUALIFICATIONS
Diploma or degree in related human/social services field (social work, psychology, sociology, etc)
1 year of recent job-related experience
Ability to write factual reports, keep accurate records, and communicate effectively
Class 5 driver’s licence, clean drivers abstract, and access to vehicle for client transportation
Valid Basic First Aid certificate or ability to obtain prior to start date
Intermediate computer skills with the ability and willingness to learn new platforms
Must be able to clear a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
