Position Overview

At JHSOK, we know that something as simple as a warm meal can make a meaningful difference in someone’s day. As a Kitchen Service & Delivery Worker, you play an essential role in ensuring clients at Cornerstone Shelter receive safe, nutritious, and well-presented meals while also keeping food service operations running smoothly behind the scenes.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced role where you’ll split your time between kitchen service, inventory coordination, and transporting food and supplies between locations. You’ll be part of a team that values reliability, teamwork, and respect, all while contributing to a safe and welcoming environment for the people we serve.

Major Responsibilities

Kitchen Service

  • Prepare, portion, package, and serve meals in accordance with food safety standards

  • Ensure proper food storage, temperature control, and safe handling practices

  • Maintain clean, sanitized kitchen and dining areas throughout each shift

  • Provide respectful, customer-focused service to clients

Delivery & Transportation

  • Safely transport food and supplies between program locations

  • Load and unload delivery items and ensure timely distribution

  • Conduct routine vehicle checks and maintain accurate mileage and fuel records

Inventory Management

  • Monitor and maintain food service supply levels (e.g., food items, packaging, condiments)

  • Complete regular inventory checks and update tracking systems

  • Identify and address inventory shortages or discrepancies

Health, Safety, and Operations

  • Follow all Food Safe, WHMIS, and organizational health and safety procedures

  • Ensure safe operation of kitchen equipment and report maintenance concerns

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

Job requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Previous experience in food service, delivery, or inventory support is an asset

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) food safety, food handling, and portion control practices

  • Strong organization and time management skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn inventory systems

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and clean driver’s abstract

  • Valid Food Safe and WHMIS certification (or ability to obtain prior to start)

  • Successful Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)

  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including lifting up to 50lbs

  • Completion of required sector training within designated timelines
